With Simon Edwards and his accomplice in custody, Detective John Cooper and Detective Jane Walker were one step closer to finding Sarah Miller. But they still had no idea where she was being held.
John and Jane went back to the warehouse where they had apprehended Simon and his accomplice. They searched the building, hoping to find some clue as to where Sarah might be.
After a few hours of searching, they found a hidden compartment in the wall. Inside was a small, handwritten note that read "The hideout is in the forest."
John and Jane knew that there were several forests on the outskirts of town. They had to narrow it down. They went back to the police station and began looking through satellite images of the surrounding areas.
After hours of scrutinizing the images, John spotted something. A small cabin, deep in the woods, that had been obscured by trees in previous images.
He and Jane immediately headed to the forest, their guns drawn. They drove as far as they could on the dirt road, then got out and continued on foot.
The further they got into the forest, the more they felt like they were being watched. They could hear the crunch of leaves underfoot and the rustle of branches in the wind. But they saw no one.
Finally, they saw the cabin in the distance. It was small and rustic, with a shingled roof and wooden shutters. They approached cautiously, scanning the surrounding area for any signs of danger.
As they got closer to the cabin, they could hear faint cries coming from inside. John motioned for Jane to take the back entrance while he covered the front.
They burst into the cabin, guns drawn. Inside, they found Sarah Miller tied up and gagged. She was pale and weak, but she was alive.
John and Jane quickly freed Sarah from her restraints and called for backup. They gave her some water and wrapped her in a blanket, trying to comfort her as best they could.
After a few moments, Sarah was able to speak. She told them that Simon Edwards and his accomplice had kidnapped her and taken her to the cabin. They had been keeping her there for weeks, using her as a bargaining chip in their criminal activities.
John and Jane escorted Sarah out of the cabin and back to their vehicle. They called for an ambulance and a forensic team to meet them at the scene.
As they waited for backup, John couldn't help but feel a sense of relief. They had found Sarah and brought her to safety. But he also knew that their work was far from over. They still needed to interrogate Simon and his accomplice and get to the bottom of their criminal activities.
But for now, he was just glad that Sarah was safe. He hoped that she would be able to recover from the trauma and move on with her life.
